Afro hair salons in Madrid: Where to go (2024 edition)

When you have afro hair, it can be difficult to find an afro hairdresser the traditional way AKA Google. We all know the struggle way too well. Most afro hairdressers in Spain either a) don’t have a website b) are not listed on Google c) don’t have enough reviews.

Since I moved to Spain back in 2018, I have had to wander in the streets of Barcelona countless times in order to find an afro hair salon.

So last weekend, when I took a short trip to Madrid I thought I would document some of the afro hair salons I could find on my walks around the city. The good news, I could definitely spot a lot more afro hair salons than in Barcelona. Most of them are in a neighborhood called Lavapiés. You can get there by metro, it's pretty central.

On the other hand, I didn’t get to try any of them so I can’t comment on the quality of their services. So if you have tried them, please leave a comment below as it might help others!

Tala Cosmetics is located at Metro Lavapiés on Calle de Lavapiés, 52. Out of all the afro hair salons I spotted on my trip this one seemed to be the most complete. They have a shop where you can buy afro hair products, as well as an afro hair salon.

From what I could tell from the outside, they do everything from braids, weave and afro hair care.

2. Ngaye salon de belleza

Calle del Mesón de Paredes, 71

This afro hair salon is also located in Lavapiés. They offer both afro hair care, and general beauty care like eyebrows threading, nails, eyelashes extension, etc.

As for their afro hair services they also seem to offer everything from hair extensions, to weave and braids. As far as I could tell, they have a website. So to book an appointment, you may need to go there directly.

3. Anillarte

Calle del Dr. Fourquet, 39

I came across this afro hairdresser out of sheer luck. If it wasn’t for the two women in the shop braiding, I would have had no idea this was an afro hairdresser. After a quick Google, I realized this used to be a jewelry shop and must have recently changed owners. So the website they have on their front door isn’t actually theirs, but the one from the former owners.

So again, in order to book an appointment and know more about their services you may need to go there and check it out yourself. When I passed by, they were doing box braids.

4. Peluqueria belleza

Calle Amparo, 59

This is the last afro hairdresser I came across in Madrid. Sill in Lavapiés. In addition to being an afro hairdresser, they also served as a beauty supply store. Again, unless I am mistaken they do not have a website. The good thing is, they offer afro hair services for both men and women.

That’s the end of my list for now, I am planning another trip to Madrid very soon so I will be adding to it throughout the year. But in the meantime, if you know a good afro hairdresser in Madrid, don’t hesitate to share.
