5 jaw dropping hikes around Barcelona
/I was never an outdoorsy person until I moved to Barcelona.
But Barcelona opened my eyes to the awesomeness of hiking. One of the best parts of Barcelona is how well-located it is. There are plenty of hikes near Barcelona where you get to by train or car.
So today I wanted to share some of my top picks for anyone looking for the best hikes near Barcelona. Hopefully, this list will continue to grow as I keep exploring hiking spots in the region.

How do I get from Barcelona to Montserrat?
Montserrat is one of the best hikes near Barcelona by train. You can also get there by cable car or by bus. The cheapest option is the bus from Estacio Sants. Although most people I know usually go by train from Placa Espanya. The journey takes about an hour and costs roughly around 11 euros. Thereβs also the option to go by cable car, I never did it but it heard it was a great alternative. You can find more info here. I usually go to Montserrat by car and it takes me 1 hour.
Why you should take a hiking day trip to Montserrat
Montserrat should be a go-to spot for anyone looking for a stunning hike near Barcelona. Whether you want to go for a full-on hiking trail from Sant Jeroni to the peak of Montserrat, or just fancy a stroll in the mountain this is the place for you. The views are breath taking. It really makes you feel like you are on top of the world. Depending on the hiking trails you chose, the levels of difficulties vary a lot. All in all, itβs a fantastic place for either a weekend solo hiking day trip or with your family and friends.

How do I get from Barcelona to Montseny?
Montseny is another hike relatively near Barcelona by train. From Barcelona Sants station you can get a train to Sant Celoni, the journey takes around 1 hour. From Sant Celoni you can catch buses that will take you to different areas of the park. By car, it takes a little bit over an hour.
Why you should take a hiking day trip to Montseny
Did you know that the Montseny massive had been declared a Nature Reserve and a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO? Well, neither did I!
This alone makes it one of the best hikes near Barcelona worth discovering. Then of course the views are spectacular, and as you climb higher youβll feel like youβve gone on a skiing trip. I was gobsmacked by the sudden change in temperature and landscape as you reach the top. You can literally experience three seasons in one day which makes this hike truly unique.
3. La Mola

How do I get from Barcelona to La Mola?
La Mola is another hike you get to from Barcelona by train although the closest station to the hiking trail is a good 40 minutes walk. If you can go by car Iβd strongly recommend it.
Why you should take a hiking day trip to La Mola
Besides the amazing views, what makes the hiking trail even more worthwhile is the FOOD waiting for you at the top! As you reach the highest point, youβll see the Monastery of Sant LlorenΓ§ of Munt, which has now been reconverted into a museum restaurant. The restaurant is very popular especially if youβre looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. There, youβll be able to order Botifarra amb mongetes (Sausages and beans) a traditional Catalan dish and my personal favorite. Over the weekend the restaurant tends to be very busy so make sure to book your spot in advance.
As for the hike, itβs a very good one for beginners. Itβs not very long either (about 6 km) in total so itβs a good one to go to if you want to take it easy on your hiking day trip.
4. Vall de Nuria
How do I get from Barcelona to Vall de Nuria?
Compared to the other spots I have listed earlier, Vall de Nuria is the one that will take you the longest to get to by train. You can get all the information here.
Why you should take a hiking day trip to Vall de Nuria
Vall de Nuria was my first big hike in the Pyrenees, and though it was an amazing one I wouldnβt recommend it for beginners. I remember going there around October, and though it was a bit chilly we got lucky the sun was out on that day so most of the snow had melted otherwise Iβd have struggled even more.
But the good thing there is that there are so many hiking trails that if youβre not 100% comfortable you can go for a shorter route. Also, one great thing about this trail is that everything is super well indicated so itβs very difficult to get lost - and trust me, I get lost everywhere.
Alternatively, you get also get the train up to the holy sanctuary, then hike back down along the mountain train.

5. Siurana
How do I get from Barcelona to Siurana?
Siurana is located in Tarragona, it's about 2 hours away from Barcelona by car.
Why you should take a hiking day trip to Siurana
Sirurana offers a great and fairly easy circular hike with access to the beautiful village of Siurana at the top of the mountains. Siurana is the perfect place to disconnect. The village is the cutest thing I have seen in a long time. With only 21 residents, its cobbled streets, and stone houses it looks like a place straight out of Harry Potter.
From there, you will get an amazing view whilst having lunch over the clouds. In total, the trail will take you 3 hours max, and if you go there on a sunny day you can even go for a swim in the lake, so bring your swimming suit. Siurana is also a great spot for rock climbing.
